Rajasthan Royals signed South Africa’s left-arm leg spinner Tabraiz Shamsi on Wednesday, for the remaining IPL matches which will be held in the UAE and will start from the 19th of September.

The No. 1 ranked T20I bowler in ICC rankings, Tabraiz Shamsi will join the Rajasthan Royals squad as their 2nd replacement player. The 31-year-old from the city of Johannesburg played for the ‘The Titans’ in South Africa’s domestic T20 tournament and made his national team debut for South Africa during a T20I series against England in 2017.

The left-arm spinner’s stats don’t look too bad as he has picked up 45 wickets in 39 T20Is. He has also played One Day matches, picking up 32 wickets in 27 ODIs for South Africa. He has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL for the 2016 season. He picked up 3 wickets in the 4 matches he played. They too signed him as a replacement player in 2016.

Australia fast bowler Andrew Tye will miss the remaining matches of the IPL for the Royals. He has said that he had a long year and has been away from home for a long time and was disappointed for not being selected in the T20 World Cup squad for Australia. He added that he will stay at home to prepare physically and mentally for next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. He also said that he is gutted that he will miss the remaining fixtures of the Royals saying, “I am gutted that I won’t be able to rejoin the Royals family this year, but like all the fans out there, I will be cheering the team on.”

Liam Livingston was the other Rajasthan Royals player who left during the first phase of the IPL and went back home to England citing bio-bubble fatigue. Rajasthan Royals are now placed at the fifth position with three wins and four losses out of the seven games in the points table.
