PSL team owners raise concerns over date clash with IPL

The franchise owners of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have expressed reservations to PCB about holding the tournament concurrently with the Indian Premier League (IPL). This development comes after various media reports suggested that the PCB was keen on aligning the PSL with the IPL’s schedule.

According to reports, the PSL franchise owners have jointly written a letter to the PCB, demanding the formation of a Governing Council to address their concerns. Prominent among these issues is the proposed scheduling of the PSL in April and May, after the Champions Trophy in 2025, which would clash with the IPL’s window.

The team owners are skeptical about the commercial viability of hosting the PSL during the same period as the IPL, given the potential impact on viewership and sponsorship revenues. Additionally, they have sought clarification on the feasibility and costs associated with hosting four PSL matches outside Pakistan.

Furthermore, the letter raises concerns about the inclusion of two new teams in the PSL 11, which could dilute the existing franchises’ central revenue pool and potentially disrupt the tournament’s schedule.

The team owners have also expressed dissatisfaction with the PCB’s press release, which claimed that the franchises agreed with the board on various matters. They have also questioned the unfulfilled promise of creating a separate company to manage the PSL.
