Pat Cummins ruled out from Adelaide Test due to injury; Boland to replace

Pat Cummins will be replaced by Scott Boland for the second Test against the West Indies in Adelaide due to injury. According to Cricket Australia, t he Australian captain was put to the test by the team’s medical staff, but it wasn’t determined that his thigh strain from the first Test in Perth had completely healed. Due to Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith will lead Australia for the upcoming Day-Night Test.

“Team medical staff commenced Cummins’ recovery in Adelaide but selectors deemed there was not sufficient time for the fast bowler to be fully fit for the match, which starts tomorrow,” a Cricket Australia statement said.

Boland, 33, made an impressive Test debut at the MCG last year, taking 6 for 7 in England’s second innings shutout. With the team touring Pakistan and Sri Lanka over the past year, where it needed to bolster its spin attack, he took 18 wickets from three games in that series at an average of 9.86, but he has not since played for the national side.
