Pakistan have managed to win the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi in a tight game, owing to some fantastic death-bowling by the seamers.
Zimbabwe went into the second innings having to chase a total of 282 runs in 50 overs set by Pakistan. They had a difficult start losing wickets at regular intervals and found themselves at 115 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Brendan Taylor and Wesley Madhevere then went on to have a 119 run partnership which brought Zimbabwe on the top and in control of the run-chase. Taylor scored 112 runs in 116 balls and Madhevere scored 55 runs in 61 balls.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz were the stars of the show for Pakistan as they defended their teams total in the last 6 overs. Afridi picked up 5 wickets conceding 49 runs and Riaz picked up 4 wickets conceding 41 runs in their respective spells. As Zimbabwe lost all their remaining batsmen in the final 6 overs, they ended up on the losing side despite being in command prior to that.
Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in a 3 match ODI series with all matches to be played at Rawalpindi.
