PAK vs AFG T20: Shadab Khan reacts after getting appointed as new T20 skipper

All-rounder Shadab Khan was chosen to captain the team in place of regular skipper Babar Azam, who has been given a rest by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan.

The announcement was made by Chief Selector Haroon Rashid and PCB Managing Committee Chair Najam Sethi, who stated that the squad was finalized with the team’s future goals in mind.

In place of Babar Azam, Pakistan’s regular captain, Shadab Khan will captain the T20I team against Afghanistan. In addition, Pakistan decided to rest a number of important series regulars, including Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman.

Speaking on being named the captain for the Afghanistan series, Shadab said: “I am grateful to the Almighty for this opportunity. Representing your country is an honour for any cricketer and to lead it is even a bigger honour so I am very excited and eager to take this role.

“This is a big responsibility as I will be leading a nation of 220 million people and I will try my best to do justice with it with all the ability that I have. (icc)

Whenever you start in any field, you want to go to the highest level and for a cricketer being selected for Pakistan is the best that they can achieve.
