The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, predicted his top teams that will make it up to the semi-finals in this ICC Men’s World Cup 2023. The legendary Indian cricketer made the prediction after the opening of the tournament by displaying the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He also shared his experience carrying the winning trophy on the ground.
“It was a surreal experience to carry that trophy out on the field. We ended up playing here in a quarterfinal against Australia, and that night was a special night for us. To come back here, same stadium, 12 years down the line,” Tendulkar told Tanvi Shah, ICC’s Digital Insider.
TENDULKAR’S TOP FOUR TEAM FOR THE SEMI-FINALS
Tendulkar believes that the host team (India) will surely make it to the semi-finals, looking at how balanced the team looks. For the same reason, he mentioned Australia entering the semi-finals. His third choice are the prior champions, England, who have a combination of experiences and some new young faces.
“India, without any doubt. We have a very, very good, balanced team. So is the case with Australia; I feel they have a balanced team. The third one, I would say, would be England. England is again a very strong team, a combination of experience and some new faces,” said Tendulkar.
His fourth and final choice is the Kiwis. The men in black have proved their capabilities in both the 2015 and 2019 semi-finals. They have depth in batting and a striking bowling unit, which can help them advance to the semi-finals.
“My fourth team would be New Zealand. They played in the finals in 2015 and 2019. If you look at their track record, New Zealand in world championships have always done well, and I see them getting to the semis.”
However, the former Indian cricketer strongly believes that the home team has the potential to give everyone a Deja Vu of the 2011 World Cup finals and make history again. In simple words, Sachin does want India to win this time.
