ODI World Cup 2023: I am really happy having scored my first World Cup fifty, Azmatullah Omarzai

Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Afghanistan’s 24-year-old young batter, Azmatullah Omarzai, expressed his happiness for scoring his first World Cup fifty.

“I am really happy having scored my first World Cup fifty. I’ll try to carry this form into the next games,” said Omarzai.

The right handed batter scored 62 runs off 69 balls striking just two fours but four massive sixes. Omarzai came to play after Afghanistan lost some early wickets and made a much needed partnership with the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (80). They both helped the team mount to a fighting total of 272 in the first innings.

“We lost early wickets, so we were trying to build a partnership. We were rotating the strike and tried to put the loose balls away. We tried to score around 300, but we lost wickets in the middle overs. We have good spinners in our team, so will try to defend this total,” Omarzai concluded.
