New Zealand duo ruled out for Bangladesh series due to injury

New Zealand faces a setback as they lose two pivotal players to injury ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh this month. Captain Kane Williamson, grappling with a knee issue, and fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, nursing a hamstring injury, have been sidelined from the 13-player squad. In their absence, the team welcomes the inclusion of the promising Rachin Ravindra and the seasoned pacer Jacob Duffy.

After making a recent comeback from injury, Williamson is set to undergo a dedicated phase of knee rehabilitation and strengthening. Meanwhile, the New Zealand team has made a strategic decision not to take any chances with Jamieson, considering the demanding Test schedule against South Africa and Australia looming in the new year.

“We want both Kane and Kyle to be in the best possible place leading into the next block of Test cricket against South Africa and Australia. Based on discussions with the medical staff and the players it was decided a period of rehabilitation and conditioning was the best option for both of them,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead admitted.

New Zealand and Bangladesh will lock horns in three-match T20I series between 27 to 31 December 2023.
