New Zealand announces new captain for the third T20I, star all rounder ruled out of test series

New Zealand has announced that their player Colin de Grandhomme and Ajaz Patel have suffered injuries ahead of the test series against West Indies.

While Colin de Grandhomme has been ruled out of entire test series, Ajaz Patel didn’t recover in expected time and has been ruled out of the first test.

Mitchell Santner has been named as Ajaz Patel’s replacement, Daryll Mitchell has been called in for de Grandhomme.

NZ coach Gary Stead commented on the forced changes in the test squad. He said that it was unfortunate to loose Colin but the replacement Santner and Daryll are excellent options as they have proved in the earlier series against England. Santner has scored century and took 3 wickets against England and Daryll has scored a impressive half century on his debut.

While Santner has been added in the test side, he is also going to captain New Zealand in the third T20I against West Indies. Tim Southee who is captain of the T20I side, will be rested for third T20. Mitchell Santner has been named as the captain for the side in third T20. The coach said that Santner is a highly experienced player for New Zealand. He is calm individual and will definitely do well as captain. It is a great honour to lead your country and Santner will be the eighth captain for the New Zealand side in T20I’s.

The coach added that it’s difficult to maintain balance of the team when the key players are injured. The players who are in the T20 side and are also in the test side regularly have been asked to assemble in Hamilton to focus on the WTC ahead of the series against West Indies.

The test series will begin from 3rd December between New Zealand and West Indies.
