Nathan Lyon can surpass legendary spinner Shane Warne, says Cummins

Current Australia skipper and World Cup champion Pat Cummins has shown his confidence in his inmate Nathan Lyon for his tremendous performances over the years. The Aussie skipper firmly believes that Nathan has the calibre and capability to surpass the legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne and become the country’s leading Test wicket-taker.

The canvas of Lyon’s career recently bore witness to a monumental stroke of brilliance—a testament etched in the form of his 500th Test wicket. It was the moment in Perth when Australia’s claimed their victory in the ICC World Test Championship against Pakistan. Lyon’s 500th Test wicket came from Faheem Ashraf LBW, becoming a mere footnote in the grand narrative of the off-spinner’s journey.

“Still got another four or five years at least, with 10 games a year. I still think you’ve got 40 or 50 test matches; that’s four or five years with 10 matches a year. Averaging four or five a game, so a couple of hundred (wickets)—that’s 700,” said Pat Cummins.

Cummins and his men had a dominating 360-run win against Pakistan, setting them back on track in the World Test Championship campaign. Australia will host the West Indies after concluding their Test series with Pakistan. It will be astonishing to see Lyon do wonders with the ball in future games as well.
