Nasser Hussain Praises India’s Bowling Unit, Dubs Them the “Fab 5” of Bowling

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has expressed his admiration for the current Indian bowling unit, labeling it as the best he has ever witnessed and drawing parallels to the iconic “Fab 5” batters of the early 2000s.

Hussain highlighted the prowess of the Indian pace trio, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, along with the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. This formidable combination has played a pivotal role in India’s impressive nine consecutive victories in the World Cup league stage.

Describing the current bowling unit, Hussain remarked on Star Sports, “This present bowling unit is the best Indian bowling unit I have ever seen. There have been great (Indian) bowlers over time, but as a unit, this is the best.” He emphasized the diversity and depth in the bowling attack, stating, “If Bumrah does not get you, Siraj will. If Siraj does not get you, Shami will. If they don’t get you, the two spinners will come in and they will get you out.”

Hussain drew a compelling parallel between the current Indian bowling quintet and the legendary Fab 5 batters, including Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman, who dominated world cricket in the early 2000s. “There used to be Fab 5 with the bat; this is the Fab 5 with the ball now,” he concluded.

As India, with an unbeaten record in the World Cup league, prepares to face New Zealand in the first semifinals in Mumbai on Wednesday, the bowling unit’s exceptional performance has garnered widespread acclaim.
