The apex cricketing body, ICC, has disclosed its ratings for the pitches employed during the World Cup 2023 final and semi-finals. The governing body deemed the pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium for the finals and Eden Gardens for the semis as ‘average.’ Australia clinched victory over India by 6 wickets in the Ahmedabad finals, extending the ICC trophy drought for the Men in Blue.
The assessment of the final’s pitch, where IND faced AUS, was delivered by ICC match referee Andy Pycroft, a month post the culmination of the prestigious event. Javagal Srinath, the match referee for the semi-finals held at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens between South Africa and Australia, adjudged the pitch as ‘average.’
In addition to these evaluations, pitches in Kolkata against South Africa, in Lucknow against England, in Ahmedabad against Pakistan, and in Chennai against Australia all received an ‘average’ rating.
The world’s largest cricket stadium witnessed heartbreak for 1,32,000 Indian fans as Australia triumphed, securing their 6th World Cup title with a convincing 6-wicket win over India. In a stellar all-round performance, Travis Head dismantled Rohit Sharma’s Invincibles, ending their 10-match winning streak.
Responding to India’s 240-run total, Australia chased down the target in 43 overs with 6 wickets in hand, marking another setback for India after their loss to Australia in the WTC Final earlier this year.
