N Jagadheesan apologises for his ‘inexcusable behaviour’ in the TNPL match

Jagadeesan was ‘Mankaded’ by Aparajith at the non-striker’s end, and the former reacted aggressively by showing the middle finger twice to the latter.

The opening match of the sixth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) was played on Thursday between the reigning champions, Chennai Super Gillies, and Nellai Royal Kings. As they chased 10 runs in five balls, the Royal Kings prevailed via Super Over. Beyond that Super Over, though, something dramatic occurred on the field that led to the creation of further attractions.

When Baba Aparajith realised that the CSG opener had left the crease while bowling the fourth ball of the over, he promptly removed the bails.

The batsman was declared out because, according to the most recent MCC regulations, “Mankading” is now a recognised and authorised method of dismissal. However, Jagadeesan was upset as he made his way to the dugout, not before twice showing the bowler the middle finger.

Jagadeesan wrote an apologetic statement for his on-field behaviour after the event. He described his actions as unacceptable and claimed it was difficult for him to understand how he responded after his run-out.

The seasoned Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper hitter, who also plays for the IPL’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK), accomplished that after being mankaded at the non-strikers’ end by Baba Aparajith. Before being removed, he had a thrilling start, scoring 25 runs off just 15 balls.
