Muralitharan appreciates India’s historic win at Gabba

As India ink history at Gabba on Tuesday after beating the hosts, Australia in the fourth Test and ended their 31 Test unbeaten streak, former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan lauded the team for their efforts. In an exclusive to the Republic Media Network, Muralitharan praised India’s performance in the Australia vs India Test match.

“I would say it is a great victory because despite the absence of senior players in the match, the young players performed very well and that is something special,” he said.

Spin legend Muralitharan represented Sri Lanka from 1992 to 2011. He holds the record of highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 800 wickets under his belt. He surpassed Australian spin superstar Shane Warne’s record of holding 708 wickets in December, 2007.

“Given the fact that earlier the Indian team was all out at 36 runs, today’s victory is very special. I think youngsters have done their job perfectly well in the absence of senior players. So this is something great,” he added.
