There seems no end to Pakistan’s misery in New Zealand as they loose their captain Babar Azam ahead of their T20 series against New Zealand. Earlier they lost their opener Imam ul Haq who injured himself in the nets where he got a fracture to his left thumb. Now the skipper Babar Azam is ruled out as he fractured his right thumb during the throw downs in the nets.
The PCB in their official statement said that it is confirmed by the local hospital that he has fractured his right thumb. They also added that he will be under observation for next 12 days and the medical team will take the final call on his availability for the tests.
Shadab Khan is expected to lead the side in absence of Babar. Shadab Khan is also suffering a groin niggle as he only batted in the nets session on Sunday. He didn’t even play the Zimbabwe series due to this injury. His selection in the team will be taken before the first T20 match according to the PCB official.
The Pakistan head coach commented on the recent injuries and said that it is unfortunate to loose those players. But he feels that this will create opportunity for the new players to step up and take the responsibility for the team. The coach also said that they want their captain fully fit for the long season of cricket ahead and hence want him to be fully fit.
The T20 series will begin from 18th December which will be played at Auckland.
