Michael Neser returns to Australian Test Squad for New Zealand Tour

Seam bowler Michael Neser has been drafted into Australia’s Test squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. Neser, who boasts two Test appearances and four ODIs for Australia, last donned the Baggy Green in December 2022.

The 33-year-old’s selection is fueled by the anticipation of seamer-friendly conditions in New Zealand. Neser’s opportunity was further amplified following injuries to Lance Morris during the ODI series against West Indies and Jhye Richardson’s sidelining due to a six-week stint with a side strain.

Matt Renshaw, who filled in for the recently retired David Warner, retains his spot in the squad as a backup batter.

Commenting on Neser’s inclusion, selection panel chair George Bailey expressed, “It’s great to see Michael Neser get another opportunity in the squad following his ever-consistent performances over a long period of time and the conditions we expect.”

Bailey emphasized the significance of the Test series in accumulating vital World Test Championship points, expecting a formidable challenge against New Zealand, a side renowned for its home dominance.

The two-match Test series, marking Australia’s first tour of New Zealand since 2016, commences on February 29.
