Australia defeated New Zealand in Wellington today by 64 runs in the third T20I series to come back from down under. Currently, New Zealand leads the five-game T20I series against Australia 2-1.
Australia scored 208 runs for the loss of four wickets with Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell showing his power as he scored 70 runs off just 31 deliveries. With eight fours and five sixes, Maxwell had a terrific strike rate of 225.81.
Additionally, he smashed Jimmy Neesham’s over for 4 four’s and two sixes scoring 28 of the over. In the process, Maxwell also broke a seat at the empty stands of the stadium in Wellington.
Despite a poor show in IPL 2020, Maxwell was bought by RCB for a whopping Rs 14.25 Crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2021 IPL auction. After his blitzkrieg in Wellington, on Wednesday Maxwell announced his comeback to the shortest format of the game.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted to Maxwell after his knock.

The power of an Australian batsman. Glenn Maxwell smashed a hole in the seat with a massive six. Good thing there was nobody sitting there at the time.

The remaining two T20Is will also be played in Wellington as the 5th T20I was moved from Auckland given the COVID-19 situation there.
