Sri Lanka is scheduled to play 3 matches T20I series against West Indies on their home ground. Dasun Sanaka was earlier appointed the captain of the T20I team of Sri Lanka but his travel plans stand delayed owing to the US transit visa issue. Angelo Mathews is newly appointed as stand-in captain of the team if things will change for the team.
Shanaka got the chance to lead the team for the first time in the series but because of his issue of visa, he was unable to travel with the team to the Caribbean. He expected to join the squad once the visa issues are resolved.
“Shanaka confronted this issue pursuant to the loss pursuant to the loss of his passport, which had a valid visa for the USA stamped on it,” the board said in the release earlier this week. “Sri Lanka Cricket is working closely with the relevant authorities to get the visa issue of Shanaka sorted, quickly as possible. He is expected to join the team once the issue is resolved.”
Earlier, Lahiru Kumara returned back to Sri Lanka because of the Covid issue, and Suranga Lankmal replaced him for the series. Sri Lanka’s tour of the West Indies gets a tumultuous start with so much bad news for the team. The first T20I will be played on March 4. The teams also play three ODI’s and Two Tests that will be part of the World Test Championship.
