Maiden five-wicket haul of Siraj leads India one step ahead of Australia

The young bowling attack did a very fabulous on day 4 of the fourth and final Test in Gabba. Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj combined pick nine wickets as India winded up Australia’s second inning for 294/10. The game was interrupted by the rain halfway and the day ended with Indian Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill on the crease for India.

Mohammad Siraj picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket and found great support from his partner Shardul Thakur, who finished the inning with four wickets, Washington Sundar took the remaining 1 one wicket. In the absence of experienced Indian pacers, Siraj bowled his heart out against Australia. Siraj removed Josh Hazlewood to complete a memorable five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Twitter was flooded with praises for the magnificent effort of Siraj at Gabba. RP Singh, one of the first few cricketers who picked up a five-wicket haul said “his father would be proud of him. Well done, Siraj” Akash Chopra wrote: “Lost his father, but chosen to stay in Australia, Got racially abused but didn’t let that affect him.”

BCCI also praised the young pacer by posting a video where Siraj was given standing ovation by his teammates in the dressing room while Virender Sehwag came up with a beautiful appraisal post. “The boy has become a man this tour. Siraj, leader of attack in his first Test series and he has led from the front,” he tweeted.
