Former BCCI secretary Sanjay Jadgale feels KL Rahul should be handed over the Test captaincy for the Indian cricket team the 29-year-old could provide long-term leadership after Virat Kohli’s sudden decision to step down as the captain.
Kohli on Saturday shocked the cricket world after he stepped down as the Test captain of the Indian cricket team, a day after India lost the series at Newlands against South Africa.
He ended his reign on a high note by being the most successful Test captain for the Indian team winning 40 games out of the 68 under his leadership after taking the charge from MS Dhoni in 2014 in the middle of Australia’s tour.
The BCCI is yet to make a decision on who will be the next Test captain for the side. Rohit Sharma was declared as the vice-captain for South Africa’s tour and Kl Rahul took over the skipper’s role in the second test as both Kohli and Sharma were not available due to injuries.
Kl Rahul has performed in all three formats and is a proven player and will be a candidate for the next Test captain of the Indian Cricket team.
