Former Indian test cricketer, Bharat Arun seems to be keen on bringing the outlook of the national side in franchise cricket. He is the bowling coach of KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) for the upcoming IPL 2022 season. Bharat Arun persists in talking about the importance of the adaptability factor.
The former Indian coach said that with the Indian side, their goal was always to be the best in any condition. According to him, to be able to achieve that objective, the biggest challenge was to have bowlers who could get to twenty wickets in every condition. He believes that they did exactly that and that’s why they are successful.
Therefore, he feels the uncertainty upon the IPL venues should not be an issue for the team management when they sit to bid for players at the mega auction on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. He believes that those players should be picked who can adapt to different conditions. Even before the pandemic, when bowlers were being picked for home conditions, they were still required to play seven away games in the IPL.
Arun also emphasizes having good bench strength. He feels that it is extremely important to build strength, especially during the pandemic where bubble life is tough and thereby it requires backups for any unpredictable circumstances. And due to the uncertainties, bigger squads are needed nowadays.
“I would say that there are opportunities for a bowler to excel. Yes, limitations are there for bowlers (in this format). But again, if they execute and build a little more guile around their bowling, they have a chance to be a hero”, said the former Indian pacer to TNN.
