Mithali Raj, a former captain of India, has hinted that she might come out of retirement to participate in the Women’s IPL. In June of last year, the graceful right-hander announced her retirement from all forms of cricket, but she hasn’t ruled out playing in the Women’s IPL. In 89 T20Is for India, Mithali amassed 2,364 runs at an average of 37.52.

The first game of the WIPL will take place in March 2023 as the competition begins following tremendous demand. Notably, Viacom 18 paid a staggering INR 951 crore for the media rights to the competition for the 2023–2027 cycle. The 40-year-old has said that she would adore participating in the first tournament.

“I’m keeping that option open. I’ve not yet decided. There are a few more months to go before the women’s IPL happens. It would be lovely to be part of the first edition of the women’s IPL,” she said during ICC’s 100% Cricket podcast with Isha Guha and Frankie Mackay.
