Karun Nair’s hopes of reviving his international career appear to have ended after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, with his name missing yet again. Nair was briefly recalled for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 after nearly eight years away from the Indian setup, but the selectors have now moved on with a younger core.

The Ajit Agarkar-led panel handed Shubman Gill his first assignment as Test captain at home, with Ravindra Jadeja as deputy. Narayan Jagadeeshan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sai Sudharasan have been given opportunities, alongside the experienced pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja will lead the spin attack, while Washington Sundar and Axar Patel strengthen the middle order.
