Kane Williamson steps down as Test captain; Tim Southee to take charge

Kane Williamson is no more the captain of New Zealand’s Test cricket team.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain Kane Williamson has stepped down as New Zealand’s Test team captain. Earlier, it was reported that the batter will be giving up his captaincy in any one of the formats. It was quite shocking for the fans as they didn’t expect this from Kane Williamson.

Kane did a great job as a captain of New Zealand’s Test cricket team. He made them win the inaugural season of the World Test Championship (WTC 2019-2021). New Zealand beat India in the finals of the WTC to lift the trophy under Kane Williamson’s captaincy.

Now that Kane is no more the captain of the Test team, pace bowler Tim Southee has taken charge of him. New Zealand’s pacer Tim Southee will play his first game as the captain of New Zealand’s Test team on 26th December against Pakistan.

New Zealand will play a two-match Test series against Pakistan after Christmas. The squads of both teams are yet to be announced for this series.
