England’s James Anderson had a near-miss on Day 1 of the second Test of the Ashes at Lord’s. Bowling to Usman Khawaja, Anderson produced a delivery that wobbled away from a fuller length, creating uncertainty for the batsman. Khawaja was nearly squared up and ended up popping his bat in front of the pad, resulting in an outside edge.
The ball flew towards the right of England captain Joe Root, who made an attempt to catch it, but unfortunately, it didn’t stick. The catch opportunity was a low one, just inches above the turf, and Root went for it with one hand. However, it remains unclear whether it was wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow’s catch.
