Joe Root leads the chart of most centuries by players against India

On the fifth day of the fifth Test, Joe Root overtook former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting’s record for the most hundreds in a match against India.

Joe Root, the former Test captain of England has been in excellent form for the past few years, and in the now concluded fifth Test match between India and England at Edgebaston, which has been rescheduled, he has continued his good form by scoring another century for his team while chasing the enormous target of 378 runs set by the Indian team.

In his 120th Test match, Joe Root achieved his 28th Test century against India in the final Test match. With this, he currently holds the record for most test hundreds against India.

Root’s 136-ball century against India in a Test match was his ninth in 45 innings. He now has more centuries than Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, who had eight in 51 innings. In the longest format, Sir Vivian Richards (41 innings), Steven Smith (28 innings), and Sir Garfield Sobers (30 innings) also amassed eight hundreds against India.

With 900 runs in 18 innings at an average of 60.00, the former England captain Root is in the great form of his career in 2022. This year, he has five hundreds to his credit as well.
