Jay Shah confirms Rohit Sharma’s role as captain for T20 World Cup, Hardik Pandya to be vice-captain

In a significant announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah declared that Rohit Sharma will lead India at the upcoming T20 World Cup, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities.


Speaking at the event to rename the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium to Niranjan Shah Stadium, Shah emphasized India’s impressive performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup under Rohit’s captaincy, despite falling short in the final. He expressed optimism about India’s prospects in the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados under Rohit’s leadership.

Shah elaborated on the decision, highlighting Rohit’s experience as a captain and his recent contributions in the T20 format, particularly his match-winning performance against Afghanistan.

Addressing the absence of alternatives for the T20I captaincy following Hardik Pandya’s injury, Shah confirmed Pandya’s role as the vice-captain, emphasizing his importance in the leadership group.
