Jalaj Saxena surprised by exclusion from South Zone squad for Duleep Trophy 2023 despite being highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy

Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena expressed his surprise and curiosity after not being selected for the South Zone squad in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2023. Despite his omission, Saxena refrained from blaming anyone and instead raised a question regarding the history of the highest wicket-taker of the Ranji Trophy being left out of the Duleep Trophy in Indian domestic cricket.

Saxena showcased an exceptional performance in the Ranji Trophy 2023 Elite round, finishing as the leading wicket-taker. In seven matches, he claimed an impressive 50 wickets at an economy rate of 2.75.

The selection committee of the South Zone recently announced a strong squad for the 2023 Duleep Trophy, but it notably excluded Saxena. Taking to Twitter to express his thoughts on the matter, the off-spinner wrote:

“As the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy (Elite Group) didn’t get picked in the Duleep Trophy. Can you please check whether it has ever happened in the history of Indian domestic cricket? Just wanted to know. Not blaming anyone.”

Saxena’s surprise at his exclusion from the prestigious Duleep Trophy highlights his dedication and performance in the domestic circuit. While seeking clarification on the matter, he maintains a respectful stance, leaving room for understanding and discussion.
