“It’s a pleasant surprise…we are yet to find a spot,” Sachin Tendulkar on being honored with life-size statue

A life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar will be erected at his home ground, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. According to the Indian Express, officials hope to unveil the statue of the Indian legend on April 24, Tendulkar’s 50th birthday, or during the ICC Men’s World Cup later this year.

This comes nearly a decade after he retired from international cricket. Sachin Tendulkar played his final Test against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium in 2013.

The statue will be unveiled on April 23, according to officials involved in the development. It will be the legendary figure’s 50th birthday. If things do not go as planned, the inauguration of the statue may be postponed until the end of the year.

“Well it’s a pleasant surprise. The president is here, Mr. Kale and the other committee members are going to join us in a while. We’ve come here to identify a spot. The idea was shared with me, and as I said it is a pleasant surprise. My career had started here and this is like the completion of a big circle,” Tendulkar told ANI.
