Stating the turning point of his career Ishant Sharma felt like “he betrayed his country” when Australia’s James Faulkner hit him 30 runs in an over in 2013, he said “the turning point of my life came when Faulkner hit me 30 runs in one over in ODI in Mohali and Australia went on to win it.
Ishant was referring to the match in which India faced Australia at Mohali and the visitors needed 44 of 18 balls to chase the target, then Captain Dhoni threw the ball at Ishant Sharma and the lack luster pacer gave away 30 runs Including 4 sixes that turned the match towards the Aussies, Faulkner was awarded as the man of the match for his 64 of 29 balls that helped Australia chase down 304 and take an advantage of 2-1 against Team India, The exact opposite happened with Ishant Sharma as he was dropped out of the ODI squad and hit his all time low.
The Right arm seamer who is considered a mainstay for India’s famous pace attack currently said, he started to take things more seriously after the Faulkner pounding , “i laugh about it now and consider it as a blessing in disguise, I went through some major changes in my life. After 2013, I took things more seriously, Before 2013 if i had a bad outing, people would come and say its fine and i used to move on but its changed now if some one came to me and said its fine I wouldn’t listen . If iv’e made mistakes, I have made mistakes. I started taking responsibilities for my own actions and when you do that you play every match to win for your team.”he said.
Only 3 wickets shy of completing 300 Test wickets for India Ishant Sharma is a legend in making and will be hoping to achieve this milestone when India Tour Australia later this year.
