Ishan Kishan likely to make comeback in T20 tournament ahead of IPL

The absence of India’s wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan from the national side since his withdrawal from the Test series against South Africa in December 2022 due to ‘personal reasons’ has sparked discussions about his future in cricket. However, according to a recent report from Dainik Bhaskar, Kishan is gearing up to make a return to the field by participating in the DY Patil tournament in Mumbai.

While India’s head coach Rahul Dravid emphasized the importance of Kishan playing matches before being reconsidered for the national team, the Jharkhand Cricket Association revealed that the cricketer did not approach them regarding playing in the Ranji Trophy.

Amidst this backdrop, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a stern directive to its players who are not engaged in international assignments or undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. The board mandates that all fit players, not part of the senior national team, must feature in the Ranji Trophy for their respective teams.

Kishan’s reluctance to participate in the Ranji Trophy despite being physically fit has prompted this decision from the Indian board. Since his departure from the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue, Kishan has not played any competitive cricket matches. However, he was recently spotted practicing with his Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya at the Reliance Stadium, hinting at his readiness to return to action.
