Ishan Kishan has forced his way back into India’s T20 World Cup squad following a commanding domestic season, highlighted by a match-winning century in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. Kishan captained Jharkhand to their maiden SMAT title, underlining his form, leadership and impact in the shortest format.

In the final against Haryana, Kishan produced a sensational knock of 101 off 49 balls, guiding Jharkhand to a formidable 262/3 in 20 overs. His innings set the tone for a comprehensive win, with Haryana bowled out for 193 in 18.3 overs, sealing a historic triumph for the state side. Kishan was named Player of the Match for his decisive performance, while Anukul Roy was adjudged Player of the Tournament.

The left-hander’s influence extended beyond the final. Throughout the tournament, Kishan led from the front as captain, combining aggressive intent with composure under pressure. His century in the summit clash served as the standout moment of Jharkhand’s campaign and played a key role in the selectors’ decision to recall him to the national setup.

Kishan’s return comes at a time when India have prioritised current form and domestic performances ahead of the World Cup. His inclusion also coincides with the omission of Shubman Gill, which may be linked to recent injury concerns, as the team management opts for players fully fit and match-ready.
