Youngster Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Trapathi crush Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in a one sided match

Massive fifties from Rahul Tripathi and Venkatesh Iyer tear Mumbai Indians apart as they go on to beat them by 7 wickets.

Five time defending IPL champions Mumbai Indians have now suffered a heavy loss in a very embarrassing fashion. The batting unit didn’t work well despite the amazing start from Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock at the Abu Dhabi Stadium. Today they had to win the important game against the mighty Kolkata Knight Riders, but hence they failed to beat them only for the seventh time in their last twenty-two meetings together. During the game against KKR, Mumbai Indians got off to a good flying start with both openers smashing the bowlers all over the park, but completely collapsed despite a small cameo by Kieron Pollard only restricted them for 155-6 in their 20 overs.

The Kolkata Knight Riders on the other hand, had different plans to bolster and attack the bowlers in reply for their chase of 156 runs. In the end, the Knight Riders went on to win the match comfortably, with what was an one sided match by 7 wickets with 5 overs to spare.

Mumbai Indians went out to bat first, as they hoped for the openers to get a good start. Their batting department started really well as Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock batted really well as they took on their bowling unit very nicely throughout the powerplay. The opening pair added 79 runs in the scoreboard by the end of the 9th over keeping Mumbai at a good position. Unfortunately, the skipper got dismissed by Sunil Narine as he totally mistimed his shot giving a simple catch to Shubman Gill. After some exclusive batting from de Kock in the next three overs, Kolkata got another wicket with Suryakumar Yadav send home packing by Prasidh Krishna for just a single run. Quinton de Kock continued to bat well with his hard fought half century, before getting dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 55 runs picking up his second wicket. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya only provided a little cameo as Lockie Forguson showed a tremendous piece of bowling in the few last overs dismissing all the three batsman taking their side only to 155-6. Kolkata Knight Riders bowling unit showed a lot of passion as they quickly found their rhythm and took quick wickets.

KKR were very comfortable with the chase, as youngster Venkatesh Iyer took the team off to a blast by scoring a quick fire 53 runs, before Rahul Tripathi joined the party with his mesmerising 74 runs making their side win easily sail by 7 wickets over Mumbai Indians. They chased down the target in 15 overs.

The man of the match has to be given to Rahul Tripathi who played a blockbuster of an innings to shatter the Mumbai bowlers with complete freedom and making his side win. For Rohit Sharma, they need to look for answers before they play against Virat’s Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.
