In an intense second match of the IPL 2020, a wrong call by the umpire might just have cost the team from Punjab the whole match. DC won the super over after the teams tied at a score o f158/8.Marcus Stones was the man for Delhi Capitals as he was effective with not just the bat but also with the ball. While the teal was about the big win for DC and the thriller of a match, an umpiring decision has turned the tables.
Umpire Nitin Menon called out Chris Jordan for a short run when the team was so close to winning the contest. Mayank Agarwal was the man who took KXIP to the end and almost won the game for them. A replay of that match moment shows that Jordan had completed that run. Menon not standing on the square could have possibly been the reason he missed the bat crossing the line. Sunil Gavaskar who was the on-air commentator also called for the decision to be reversed as he knew for a fault but it wasn’t given a look at. The TV umpire for the match was former Australian quick Paul Reiffel.
Social Media has been very active and has been condemning the result and the decision that could have completely changed the result of the match. The game would not have gone to a super over and the Kings could have been on the winning side because of the one single run that was called short. Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag tweeted regarding the incident and called that the Umpire should have been called the Man of the Match instead.
I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match.
