In a recent social media revelation on Sunday, Chennai Super Kings confirmed that the seasoned Mahendra Singh Dhoni will resume his role as captain for the upcoming 2024 season of the Indian Premier League. Dhoni, a five-time IPL-winning captain in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, initially had reservations about participating in the lucrative league again.

CSK took the lead in unveiling their squad, affirming that the 2011 World Cup-winning captain would once again don the leadership mantle for the Men in Yellow.
In a previous scenario, there were speculations about Ruturaj Gaikwad potentially donning the captain’s hat if MS Dhoni’s recovery did not progress as anticipated before the upcoming IPL edition. Several credible sources, including journalist Mohsin Kamal, corroborated this news on Thursday (November 23).
Following keyhole knee surgery post the IPL 2023 triumph, Dhoni, at 42, emphasized that his involvement in the upcoming edition hinged entirely on his recovery status. Currently, Dhoni is relishing his retirement and was recently spotted enjoying a holiday with his wife, Sakshi.
Notably, CSK had entrusted Ravindra Jadeja with leadership responsibilities after Dhoni’s departure before IPL 2022. However, the plan didn’t unfold as expected, leading to Jadeja’s mid-season resignation. Dhoni, once again, stepped up and guided the team to their fifth IPL title in the subsequent edition.
With Ruturaj Gaikwad expressing eagerness to be the franchise’s face in the future, it appears that Jadeja might not be in contention for the captaincy role at CSK.
