West Indies’ Romario Shepherd prepares for bench role with Mumbai Indians in IPL

West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd is gearing up to embrace a waiting game as he prepares to join the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite shining in the Bangladesh Premier League with Chattogram Challengers, Shepherd anticipates limited opportunities in the star-studded Mumbai Indians lineup.

Shepherd, who previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, acknowledges the competition within the Mumbai Indians squad. “I know how to wait because I have been waiting very long in West Indies and whichever team,” Shepherd stated in an interview with Cricbuzz. “It’s up to the franchise and whoever selects the team because they know what they need against each team.”

Expressing excitement about representing Mumbai Indians, Shepherd recognizes the franchise’s prestige and legacy. “For me, it’s a big step in my career to play for one of the biggest franchises in the world,” he said. “I want to continue doing the stuff that actually made them pick me for the side.”

Despite the prospect of limited game time, Shepherd remains focused on staying prepared and seizing opportunities whenever they arise. “For me, it’s all about being ready, staying ready so whenever you are called upon, that you are ready,” he emphasized.

Known for his big-hitting prowess, Shepherd revealed his approach to training, emphasizing quality over quantity. “I am not someone who goes out and hits 1000 balls,” he explained. “I want to feel I am where I am at the start of the game.”

Reflecting on his journey, Shepherd highlighted the challenges of honing his power-hitting skills while growing up. “It was something that I had to work on to hit the ball in the air, and I am still improving,” he disclosed.

As Shepherd prepares to join Mumbai Indians for the IPL, he remains optimistic about contributing to the team’s success, ready to make the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
