For the first time since Hardik Pandya was appointed the captain of the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 , the new leader interacted with Indian cricket captain and former MI leader Rohit Sharma.
Pandya became the captain of Mumbai Indians in December 2023 after being traded from Gujarat Titans, where he was previously the vice-captain, before the IPL 2024 auction, replacing Rohit Sharma.
Although Pandya’s move caused a mini-upset among IPL fans, the new captain recognized Rohit as a regular. Furthermore, both Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma met each other for the first time during a practice session at their home ground – Wankhede Stadium.

The encounter comes as a boon for the franchise, after earlier reports of unrest among the squad made headlines. A video shared on Mumbai Indian’s Instagram handle shows Pandya approaching Rohit, suggesting a possible truce between the two veterans. Speaking to the media, Pandya praised Rohit’s captaincy and claimed he would only take over from where Rohit left.
Rohit Sharma captained Mumbai Indians for some unforgettable moments, leading them to IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Rohit captained 158 matches , out of which MI emerged victorious in 87 games, an impressive achievement for the skipper. Mumbai Indians will face-off against Gujarat Titans, who acquired Pandya, in the IPL 2024 opening match, and all eyes will be on Pandya as he makes his debut as the MI captain.
