The Mumbai Indians’ 2023 IPL season appears to be jeopardised even before it begins, as another star pacer is set to be ruled out of the tournament following the exit of Jasprit Bumrah.

Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of Australia’s ODI tour of India, as well as his IPL stint with Mumbai Indians, after suffering a hamstring injury recurrence in his first grade game back since the BBL.

Richardson had not played cricket since a hamstring strain on January 4. The injury was initially diagnosed as minor, and it was hoped he would be able to play in the BBL finals, but it took him two months to recover. He did not play any Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield cricket after missing the Perth Scorchers’ BBL title run. He was, however, named to Australia’s 16-man One-Day International squad for the three-match series in India, which begins on March 17 in Mumbai.

According to the report, the injury and recovery could keep him out for an extended period of time, making him unlikely to be ready to play for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023. Richardson was purchased for INR 1.5 crore by the five-time champions.
