TATA IPL 2022: Shreyas Iyer reaches 2500 runs in the tournament

Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to bowl first at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, and the Kolkata Knight Riders were dealt early knocks.

Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders, scores his 2500th run in the Indian Premier League today against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 25th match of IPL 2022.

Iyer had scored 2498 runs prior to the match and needed two more runs to achieve 2500 runs in the IPL. The skipper had smashed 28 runs in 25 balls with three boundaries before being dismissed by Umran Malik.

For a staggering INR 12.25 crore, the franchise moved all out to secure the skills of India hitter Shreyas Iyer. It was their highest offer in the auction, and he was elected captain of the team shortly thereafter.

Shreyas had took over as skipper of the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) halfway through the 2018 season, becoming himself the youngest player in IPL history to do so. In his debut encounter as skipper, Iyer hit an undefeated 93 off 40 balls to win the match against KKR.
