TATA IPL 2022: Sanju Samson becomes first player for RR to play 100 matches

This year, the Rajasthan Royals are in a solid position under Samson’s leadership, which aids his appeal.

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, will play his 100th innings for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League’s 52nd match of ongoing season against Punjab Kings.

The Rajasthan Royals captain got off to a winning start in the IPL 2022 season with a quickfire 27-ball 55 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Samson followed up with a comeback against Mumbai Indians before suffering his first season setback against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He struck Wanindu Hasaranga for a six down the pitch, then chipped a curveball right back to the bowler two balls later to fall for eight. In the match, Samson got off to a flying start with three sixes before being caught by Hasaranga while trying an opposite to a full-length delivery.

Since 2020, Samson has scored the most runs in winning reasons among all non-openers in the IPL, with 622 of his 1157 runs (53.5%) going to the Royals in 17 triumphs.

This year, the Rajasthan Royals are in a solid position under his leadership, which aids his appeal.
