TATA IPL 2022: Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway brings CSK’s 15th 100-run opening partnership in the league’s history

The 110 runs scored by the duo will be CSK’s 15th 100-run opening partnership in IPL history.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway registered Chennai Super Kings’ second 100+ opening partnership of the season in the 55th match of IPL 2022 against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals.

The 110 runs scored by the duo will be CSK’s 15th 100-run opening partnership and 39th 100- run partnership in the Indian Premier League’s history.

Earlier Gaikwad and Conway teamed up for a stunning 182-run partnership against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1, that solidified their place in league history. It was the Super Kings’ first century partnership, who had a rough start to the season. With this, in the IPL 2022, the duo also marked the highest opening partnership.

While Gaikwad and Conway had two of the three 100+ run partnerships of the franchise in the season, one of them was Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube’s 165 run partnership against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12 at DY Patil Stadium.

Former CSK players Mathew Hayden and Parthiv Patel scored 106 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 20 in the 2009 IPL season, becoming the franchise’s first 100-run opening partnership.

Although Suresh Raina and Mathew Hayden scored 104 runs for the third wicket in a match against Mumbai Indians in the 2008 season, which was CSK’s first ever 100+ opening partnership.

CSK, the defending champions, are mathematically still in the league, despite their low chances of making the play-offs in the ongoing 2022 season.
