
Mumbai Indians were able to reach a respectable score of 161 against Kolkata Knight Riders due to a scintillating partnership of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma. Suryakumar Yadav’s was the first match of this IPL season and in his very first match, Surya Kumar played a match winning innings and took MI out of difficult situations to reach a total of 161. Suryakumar Yadav, batting brilliantly, scored 52 runs in 26 balls at a strike rate of 144. Along with Suryakumar Yadav, young player Tilak Verma also played a good innings and scored 38 not out.
Mumbai Indians, who came out to defend the target of 161 runs, bowled brilliantly in the Power Play and did not give much chances to both the KKR openers to score runs. Experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane and talented Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings for KKR. Tymal Mills gets the first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians and runs Ajinkya Rahane in his very first over. Ajinkya Rahane could not do much in this match and was dismissed after scoring only 7 runs. Baisal Thampi, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills and Daniel Sams bowled very tightly, due to which KKR could only manage 35 runs for the loss of two wickets in the power play. In the first 4 overs of the power play, there was a great bowling performance from Mumbai Indians and all these fours bowlers bowled very economically and gave a total of 16 runs in 4 overs.
