Tata IPL 2022: Mark Wood set to miss this season due to injury

ECB has informed the Lucknow Super Giants that Wood would not be available to play this season.

The Lucknow Super Giants have indeed been dealt a major setback just over a week before start of the IPL 2022 season, as great bowler Mark Wood got ruled out due to injury. Wood, who is presently with the England squad on their West Indies tour, hurt his elbow in the first Test and was forced to miss the second Test in Barbados.

At the mega IPL auction in February, Wood was selected by Super Giants for INR 7.5 crore. Wood’s participation as in IPL, though, was called into question after he pulled out of the drew first Test last week for only bowling 17 overs due to a discomfort in his right elbow. Wood had attempted to undergo a physical test, bowling six deliveries inside the nets, before the start of the match on the fifth day, but had felt “acute pain.” Wood had only managed to bowl five overs on the third day before leaving the field.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the renowned fast bowler will not play for the squad this season. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had reportedly provided LSG authorities a medical update about Wood’s unavailability for the remainder of the season. A replacement is still yet to be named by the franchise.
