The Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a major setback in their dreams of seeing Deepak Chahar play for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season.

Chahar, who was recruited by Chennai for INR 14 crore during the IPL 2022 auction, has been recovering from a right quadriceps injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, was forced to withdraw from the next series against Sri Lanka. Chahar, who can also hit huge shots, was instrumental in the team’s triumph last season.

Between 2018 and 2021, Chahar appeared in 58 IPL matches for CSK, claiming 58 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70 for the four-time IPL winners.

In Chahar’s absence, CSK are battling to collect wickets in the early overs, with young bowler Mukesh Choudhary finding it tough to fill the veteran pacer’s shoes. CSK also lacks depth in the bowling department, as they lack a true leg-spinner in their lineup.
