Star batsman Chris Gayle to leave IPL 2021 due to bubble fatigue

Gayle played 10 games in CPL where he managed to score only 193 runs. In this phase of the IPL, he thus far has only managed to score 15 runs in the two innings.

The decision of Punjab Kings batter Chris Gayle to leave the team’s bio-bubble came as a shock to many. Considering that his team still has a chance, mathematically, to make it into the finals. However, the reasons cited by the 41-year-old also seem to be very much valid.

A statement was released by the Caribbean batter, in which he cited ‘mental recharge’ being the biggest reason why he pulled out of IPL. “Over the last few months, I have been a part of the CWI bubble, CPL bubble followed by IPL bubble. I want to refocus on helping the West Indies team in the T20 World Cup,” Gayle told as tweeted by PBKS.

Gayle played 10 games in CPL where he managed to score only 193 runs. In this phase of the IPL, he thus far has only managed to score 15 runs in the two innings. Although these figures seem to be low and inconsiderable, they cannot be taken as the representative of the Caribbean who has the potential to turn them around in one inning.

While addressing the issue, Anil Kumble, the Director of Cricket Operations said that over the years he has played as well as coached Gayle. He knows that the all-time highest run-scorer is an out-and-out professional, who always brings his best to the team. This is why the team management has decided to respect his decision.

However, Gayle will remain in Dubai. He will join his national side ahead of the T20 World cup. While Punjab Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders, on the 1st of October who is currently residing in the 4th position on the points table.
