South African batter Aiden Markram has been appointed as the new skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
The 28-year-old Markram recently led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the first-ever SA20 title and finished the competition as the third-leading run-maker.
After Kane Williamson was released by Sunrisers prior to the IPL auction last December, the team had to take over as the team’s captain. Williamson, who was the first player retained by the franchises prior to the mega auction in 2022, struggled with his form as Sunrisers finished eighth last season and missed the playoffs. Williamson sat out the season’s final league game to return to New Zealand for the birth of his child, which allowed Bhuvneshwar Kumar to take over.
