After a disappointing season in IPL 2023, the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise has decided to restructure its support staff for the upcoming IPL 2024. Despite their poor performance, head coach Ricky Ponting will retain his position, demonstrating the management’s faith in his leadership. However, reports suggest that assistant coach Shane Watson may not continue with DC.
According to sources, the team is looking to streamline its support staff by parting ways with Shane Watson and James Hopes, who served as assistant coaches and fast bowling coaches, respectively. This decision aims to create a leaner support system with a sharper focus. Ajit Agarkar, who has been an assistant coach for the past two years, is expected to be promoted to a more prominent role within the coaching setup. Additionally, Pravin Amre will be entrusted with greater authority in guiding the team’s direction.
Unlike previous seasons, DC has no immediate plans to bring in substitute coaches for Hopes and Shane Watson. The emphasis is on having a smaller support staff to enhance clarity and improve team dynamics. Pravin Amre, who has been instrumental in nurturing a strong core of talented young players since 2015, will have the freedom to rebuild the team according to his vision.
Sources also revealed that during the successful period between 2019 and 2022, both Ricky Ponting and Pravin Amre played significant roles in shaping the team’s performance and strategies.
