Rohit Sharma will need a few days to recover before playing against Kolkata Knight Riders, says Mahela Jayawardene

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene mentioned that captain Rohit Sharma will be made available to play against Kolkata Knight Riders.

On Monday, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that skipper Rohit Sharma will like to be obtainable to start against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday after Mumbai Indians lost their game against 3 time defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs yesterday. Ruturaj Gaikwad performed an excellent display of batting as he shocked the bowlers by playing a magnificent knock of 88 runs to which Pollard’s side had no reply. The inclusion of Rohit Sharma was very important for the team as he didn’t pass fit according to the coaches hence giving Pollard the captaincy. Mahela was worried about Rohit Sharma’s fitness condition as the side lost their match against Chennai Super Kings.

In the post-match conference, Mahela Jayawardene asked about Rohit Sharma mentioned “Rohit was batting and doing his running, after coming back from the England series he required an extra few days so that he could play the next match”.  He clearly also stated that Rohit Sharma will be made available for the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. In his words about the overall pitch conditions he quoted “Well, I think the pitch was not doing much, to be honest, in the second innings, the wicket was pretty good. I agree we probably gave a couple of soft dismissals, but we are looking for someone to take utmost responsibility throughout the game which we failed to deliver completely.”

Mumbai Indians fell short by 20 runs as they lost to Chennai Super Kings after they gave a target of 157 runs all thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring a massive 88 of 58 balls, to which the 5-time champions struggled with losing consecutive wickets as they scored 137 runs only.

Mumbai Indians will play against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dubai on Thursday. Meanwhile,table-toppers Chennai Super Kings will play against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday in Sharjah.
