Gujarat Titans’ young star Sai Sudharsan narrowly missed out on claiming the IPL 2025 Orange Cap on Tuesday as he fell just 3 runs short of Nicholas Pooran’s tally. Sudharsan’s solid 49 off 36 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru took his season total to 186 runs in 3 matches—just shy of Pooran’s 189.
Batting with poise and confidence, Sudharsan looked well on course for his third consecutive fifty before he was undone by a clever delivery from Josh Hazlewood. Attempting a lap shot, Sudharsan misjudged the back-of-a-length ball that cramped him for room. The ball caught his glove and lobbed to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma, who completed a sharp catch. Sudharsan walked back visibly disappointed, knowing he had missed a golden chance to top the run-scoring chart.
Before his dismissal, Sudharsan struck 7 boundaries and a six, keeping Gujarat Titans firmly in the chase. His partnership with Jos Buttler was crucial in stabilizing the innings after an early wicket.
With this performance, Sudharsan now sits second in the Orange Cap standings with 186 runs in 3 matches at an average of 62. Nicholas Pooran continues to hold the top spot with 189 runs from as many matches.
As the race for the Orange Cap intensifies, all eyes will be on Sudharsan’s next outing to see if he can finally overtake Pooran in the next match.
