RCB vs DC IPL 2023: Mitchell Marsh gets crucial wicket with controversial DRS call

David Warner went up for the DRS review on Marsh’s insistence, despite Porel’s conviction that it wasn’t out.

In the IPL 2023 match between RCB and DC, Mitchell Marsh struck a vital blow by dismissing Mahipal Lomror, but not without some confusion.

Marsh bowled a cross-seam delivery wide outside off, and Lomror went for a big shot, but missed the ball. There was a faint edge through to the keeper, and Marsh heard it, but keeper Abishek Porel didn’t seem convinced. However, DC captain David Warner went up for the DRS review on Marsh’s insistence, despite Porel’s statement that it wasn’t out.

The third umpire took a few replays and concluded that there was indeed an edge, and Lomror had to depart for 26 runs, including two sixes.

The DRS call, however, raised some eyebrows, as it appeared that Warner overruled his keeper’s opinion, and went ahead with the review on Marsh’s insistence. The incident has once again sparked the debate over the use of DRS, and whether captains should have the final say in taking reviews, especially in cases where the keeper or other fielders might have a better view of the action.
